So basically it was a feel good move that accomplishes nothing towards reducing the risk of another massacre, and may possibly cause more hatred crimes.
IMO this flag was already insignificant and was on its way out to self extinction. Now this decision will rally some people towards the flag again and against those who they feel forced it to be taken it down. Forbidden fruit is always the sweetest.
Flag sales are spiking. This has made the flag relevant once again.
It needed to be done, but perhaps not for this specific reason related to the murders. But I don't see what else would've been done, because Americans turn a blind eye to the issues that would directly relate to it in a more tangible way.
People always rebel against change. Look at all those foolish county clerks refusing to marry gays now. It's sad, but also rebelling against the inevitable, and ultimately a pointless exercise. It only makes those people look worse.
Oh crap - is it too late to point out that the Confederate constitution also guaranteed a republican form of government?
. . .
Which means it is more "American" than the current People's Democratic Socialist Republic of America.
When Americans embraced the idea that it was a "good thing" for government to TAKE from one to GIVE to another, they embraced their doom. That ended absolute ownership (private property) and instituted collectivism with its compulsory charity, compulsory labor for the benefit of another, and expropriation of property for the benefit of another.
Guess how they were going to enforce that? Wheedle, “Pretty please, with sugar on top?”
No.
They instituted a “benevolent” totalitarian police state, where everything not mandatory, is taxed, regulated, licensed, or forbidden. And now we have stooges like the Golfer-in-Chief to perform for the (m)asses.
... and don't forget your paperssss-sss-ss-ss-ss.
I am so forgetful - - - Welcome to the People's Democratic Socialist Republic of America... in operation since 1933. A full service, benevolent totalitarian police state, socialist democracy, and perpetually bankrupt system.
We hate "hate!"
So, how is anyone supposed to reason with this?
"Prepperland" says so much. Everyone stock up on the tinfoil!
The power of social media. People have been trying to get this flag removed for years. Crazy white male goes and kills 9 people, the swell of anger and movement got the flag removed in less than a month.
But the Confederate Flag had nothing to do with this! This is pure stupidity. What will this change? The flag is a symbol of the South. It's a piece of history. Should we also ban, "Don't Tread on Me?"
The whole thing was a knee-jerk reaction from the emotionally packed liberals. The removal of the flag isn't going to change anything one iota. What is has done is made the flag supporters more determined to make the flag more visible than it ever has been. So, what was accomplished by this move? Most of the people that wanted it removed from state grounds have never laid eyes on it. This move will be forgotten in weeks and the knee-jerk liberals will be off on another tangent to see what other American rights they can fight against.
By saying it won't change anything is rather indirectly admitting there is a problem with racism. The flag support is just a symptom of that, and its removal won't actually make people less racist. But governments should not be spending public dollars supporting racism and the symbol of a defeated nation. Period. Fly it at home while you're stocking your basement with guns and Stormfront pamphlets.
You are 100% incorrect. I knew you had no idea what you're talking about. Slavery was ONE reason, not the ONLY reason...and certainly not the MAIN reason North Carolina cited its reason to secede.
Done "debating" this topic with you. You have no clue what you're talking about. Waste of my time.
You realize that even if it was one of 50 reasons, it still was a reason, right? But of course, it wasn't one of 50 or 40 or 30 or 20 or even 10 or 5. It was the #1 cited reason. And I'm sure your honorable uncle simply didn't know anything about slavery at the time and I'm sure he was hiding poor slaves in his cellar on the Underground Railroad before he picked up arms for the Confederacy. Sure.
I am glad that rag is being removed from a public building. It is a direct symbol of a slave based aristocratic tyranny that nearly ruined half of our great country. Good to see it go.
I have never been more disgusted with my country. I cannot believe what is happening here today, common sense, reason and tradition mean nothing anymore. Its not just this flag thing, its all of this PC. Just today a federal judge yanked the copyright protection for the Washington Redskins based on PC nonsense. We have bakeries being sued for sticking to their religious beliefs. We are being governed by the perpetually offended, HOW on earth is this the same nation I was born into?? How is this the nation of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson? A Soviet invasion 30 years ago could not have done as much damage to our nation as we have done to ourselves.

I have never flown said flag, and never owned one. Why the ignorant statement about the flag, guns, and Stormfront pamphlets? Never mind! I know the answer. Everyone who has different views from you is a racists redneck. Ignorance is bliss, is it not?
