The list of things 15-year-olds are not legally allowed to do in Oregon is long: Drive, smoke, donate blood, get a tattoo -- even go to a tanning bed.
But, under a first-in-the-nation policy quietly enacted in January that many parents are only now finding out about, 15-year-olds are now allowed to get a sex-change operation. Many residents are stunned to learn they can do it without parental notification -- and the state will even pay for it through its Medicaid program, the Oregon Health Plan.

I don't think this forum understands how poorly Oregon is run. I think when Democrat policy wonks get together to discuss ideas, they go "so where are we actually going wrong?" and their response is "ah yes, Oregon."

The apparatchiks who enabled this ridiculous policy no doubt think spanking is barbaric and criminal. Yet the same folks see no problem with letting a teenager undergo surgery to remove their sexual organs.

Which part are you referring to? In Oregon, 15yr old and older has been the age of consent for medical procedures since 1971, back when Republicans ran the state.

I don't question that there's a psychological condition whereby people experience gender confusion and feel out of place in their bodies. These people deserve compassion, love and psychological help.
What I question is whether or not removal of sexual organs, or hormone treatment for minors is really the cure.

Gender dysphoria is not going to kill them unless it drives them to suicide. There is NO reason a 15 year old child cannot wait three years until attaining majority before undergoing such a permanent procedure.
(And let me be clear: I am referring ONLY to very young people and especially to minors who will do without parental consent! And in the latter case, I am referring to the surgeons and doctors who would actually consent to do this, not to the kids themselves.)

The sad irony of the story is that you can be a parent with a child who thinks he or she is the wrong gender, and that child can go have his or her genitals permanently altered with YOUR tax dollars. And all of this can occur without your knowledge.
Liberals truly are ruining this once great country.
