The official view from the Seventh-day Adventists, the denomination of Christianity which Caron is a member of, states that the Earth was created in six 24 hour days, 6,000 years ago.
He did say that civilization started 6,000 years ago. But his church also believes (and likely he as well, as that's one of those churches that doesn't take too kindly to be who disagree) civilization and the Earth started at the same time. As in Genesis is literally true (which it isn't).
Obviously, most Christians don't believe the Earth is 6,000 years old. Many would probably take the 'civilization' route, though that's a pretty vague concept without any real truth to it. But there are people who believe the Earth is literally 6,000 years old, created by God in six 24 hour days, and that all the species existed simultaneously.
And even if we take your apologist view of Carson's beliefs, he firmly believes evolution is incorrect; that humans are too complex to have evolved. This concerns me.
Put your brain in gear.. not the earth.. civilization is 6 thousand years old big difference.. the earth is the big round dirt ball floating around in space... been here for millions of years.. got it.. now Ben Carson believes that Man was created 6 thousand years ago in the garden of Eden.. the earth, big dirt ball is different than the creation of mankind.. Man is much too complex to evolve.. man can adapt ,, that is a far cry from evolve.
