No state has ever generated more tax revenue from marijuana than alcohol—until now.
The Colorado Department of Revenue, according to recently released figures, just brought in $70 million in taxes relating to marijuana, compared to less than $42 million for alcohol taxes, over the course of a year.
How smart are they! Pot is going to be bought anyway, why not make some tax for the state instead of $$ just going to support some non tax paying dealer!
Come on Mircea, you're better than that, and I tend to agree with a lot of what you say on here, and your posts are very insightful (though you do take a lot of s*** from others on here). Having said that, alcohol which is indeed legal destroys people's health a hell of a lot more. And let's not forget the harder street substances and the drugs prescribed legally by doctors. Those seem to be causing a lot more problems in societyt oday than cannabis. I'm not saying cannabis is completely harmless. Nothing is. However; I will say as with anything, moderation is key, and use does not necessarily equal abuse. Furthermore prohibition policies and our stupid war on drugs causes more harm to innocent people here and in Latin America, than the actual substances themselves.
Why shouldnt I cheer on the government having more revenue ?
I could understand you saying I shouldnt cheer on more spending, but not revenue.
Depends on how they spend it. If they are fiscally responsible the. I say cheer away but if they spend just like some poor dude who just won the lottery, then forget it.
