This is all very bizarre.

Why are clerks elected officials? What a waste of time and money. Hire them and fire them like everyone else.

What this woman is trying to do is institute her religious beliefs as taking precedent over US law. She's no Joan of Arc. You know what this is called in some countries?

Sharia law.

Really. What the hell does Kentucky think it is? A state with its own laws, or something?

No, she is simply living her religious views and accepting the consequences of doing so. In a country with Sharia law, she'd be shrouded and subject to stoning. And you and your friends in this board would happily sling the rocks.

How is refusing to issue marriage licenses to residents of the county "living by her religious views"?
How is refusing to do the job she is paid $80k/year "living her religious views"?
How is refusing to allow anyone else in the office to issue marriage licenses "living by her religious views"?

Maybe if her "religious views" included forcing everyone in the county to live by her personal beliefs, but that is not allowed from elected officials.

I'm proud of a Ky judge who enforced the law. Contempt of the court merits being sent to prison, and he followed through, and acted accordingly.

Resigning her position would be "accepting the consequences".

Psst: It's the religious people who throw stones.

The judge did not enforce the law. They simply interpreted it.

True, but either way, I fully agree with Davis being sent to jail.

You lost today, you little bigot.

I wish they would have fired her months ago.

You get the bigot award today. Can't fire a court clerk, look at the balance next time you vote. If you do vote you would already know you vote for that position...you most likely do not.

Yep, her personal beliefs are good enough not to.
