If OP looks Obama is looking for enough democrats so he does have to veto the senate saying no on advise and consent. That means he couldn't even get 34 democratic votes and goes forward on his own without senate approval.

Its to late for a plausible alternative, once Iran becomes richer from the sanction relief, there is no turning back. There will be no snap back sanctions, there will be no Europeans looking to ding Iran for more violations. The benefits of economic trade will strengthen the world's economy and Europe cannot turn its back on the prosperity. The deal is not enforceable because Europe will not trade it economic improvements in exchange to call out Iranian transgressions.

Bibi warned Congress to negotiate a tougher deal, but we capitulated. Bibi saw the long term repercussions for not only his country, but the U.S. While you gullibly believe that giving money to a convicted felon was the best approach, The United States is going to spend so much more money to counter Iranian influence in the region. Billions of dollars to fight against Assad yet we are giving money to its arch supporter! New weapons packages to allies to counter Iranian influence; who do not trust the deal. So the best deal the enlightened and privileged Western elite came up with was a ill conceived Trojan horse with a cash bonus of some billions of dollars. And worse of all, our fickle European allies have to agree unanimously what a violation is or isn't. This deal does not outline was wrong or right, and we will never know.

You'll remember this thread in the future when you find out this was a big mistake. Unless you do the lefty thing and blame Israel for whatever it may be.

Yah. You listen to "Bibi the wise man" all you want. I will choose not too, as did the 5 most powerful countries in the world who actually negotiated with Iran and ALL feel strongly that this is the best option.

Your alternative to that is?....

Attempting to IMPOSE a democracy on a culture thousands of years old does not work. It did not work in Libya. It did not work in Egypt. And it did not work in Iraq.

Attempting to IMPOSE a democracy seems to be a convenient way to rationalize spending $Trillions and the deaths and serious injuries of US military.

The Republicans caved to Obama in the first place by allowing a bill to pass that says the president has the right to veto an rejection of the deal. It is the kind of smoke and mirrors political games they play. The reason they did this is so the Republicans could make political hay and agitate their under-educated membership over the deal while actually ensuring that it passed, because it was a decent deal and the only way out of the Iran nuke problem short of a war nobody wants.

They did the same with the borrowing cap. They know that it absolutely must be raised. But the Republicans are more interested in using decisions on important issues to rally the ignorant than to do what is right and in the best interests of the country. So they let the democrats do the work and take the political heat from the fires they start over it.

Colin Powell was on Meet the Press this morning. He favors the deal. According to Powell more than 100 countries, including Russia, China and Germany have agreed to the deal. There is no upside to the U.S. not agreeing to the deal. Then he got into the technical weeds dispelling myths - way over my head.

I suspect if the Obama Admin had taken the position of opposing the deal, the Republicans would have condemned him for it.

Most of Congress, regardless of party, probably could not locate Iran on a map without labels identifying each country.

Politics as usual.

I think you nailed it. If the tables were turned, the Democrats would likely do the same.
