"There is a very short answer for my use of a nom de plume: after a poem of mine has been rejected a multitude of times under my real name, I put Yi-Fen's name on it and send it out again. As a strategy for 'placing' poems this has been quite successful for me," Hudson wrote in the contributors' notes section of "The Best American Poetry 2015."
I suppose a lot of authors use pen names other than their real name. He probably didn't actually commit any fraud if he didn't actually say he was Asian, and just merely submitted the work with an Asian name after it was rejected with his name.

Is this dishonest by the author?

Is it dishonest if a published rejects it with a white sounding name, but not with an Asian name?

A work of art should be judged by its content alone. There is nothing dishonest in the use of a pen name. History is filled with women who worked under male names to avoid discrimination.

Choosing not to publish something simply because of the perception of the author's race isn't necessarily dishonest. It is, of course, an act of irrational discrimination.

No it is not dishonest..however..kind of explains why some get published and other's don't..Is the name ( Cultural connotation ) that gets anything publish/denied..of a BIG name celebrity automatically gets published..I guess you could go even further..why some get a call in for interview and other's don'e..Is it the name or qualifications???

This title caused me to immediately go to that movie, when Dustin Hoffman dressed up like a women in order to get a job...then of course that famous movie when Robin Williams played Mrs. Doubtfire ( corse slightly different due to wanting to be around his kids)....It will be an age old question I guess..is it discriminatory or is it talent/or lack thereof ???

Is it more difficult for Asians to get science projects published?

That is horrible and detrimental to mankind to slow science based on fulfilling quotas and thereby not exceeding others.

There are Asians that are claiming that some schools discriminate against them. That people of other races (including whites) can have lower GPAs, SAT scores, and etc and get accepted while Asians with better resumes get rejected.

Horrid.

Those study too hards(cheaters) are annoying. The only gap that matters is the black/white gap. Suck it Hispanics...and Native Americans #BlackLivesOnlyMatter

Horrid - Uh-huh.

Hollywood writer friend who actually had TV credits so she wasn't a wannabe, found that work dried up after she turned forty. Her agent fired her. She got hair extensions, Botox, dressed much younger, boned up on pop culture and found a new agent. She sold a few more projects, some of which had been rejected when she was 'older.' Age discrimination is real.
