Once upon a time, long ago, a one dollar bill was a "Silver Certificate", redeemable at any bank for one silver dollar.
Now, a one dollar bill (and, in fact, ALL paper United States currency) is a "Federal Reserve Note, backed by "the full faith and credit of the United States". A bank does not HAVE to give you silver for it, because it is not backed by silver!
In other words, that paper money is worth the face value because the consumer has faith in the government that says it has value. It has value because of faith. It has no real value!
But, even those who deride religious faith as foolish have total faith in the value of their paper money! It is rather funny, actually!
Nope, it never gets old. Money is used as a medium of exchange. you can dance around all of that, but in the end thats reality, where I an many others live. When you say "money is worthless" you are demonstrating that you are ignoring reality.
So no, when you state things like that, and I ask for your worthless money...it becomes obvious that even you do not believe what you are saying.
This. Money has value because we collectively use it as a medium of exchange & (imperfect) store of value, and additionally because the IRS will throw you in jail, seize your house, or dissolve a company if you don't give them enough of it at tax time.
