The government could be weaker, if the private sector unions could be stronger. Labor could negotiate the "going wage" if labor unions could get their act together, companies didn't fight so hard to bar them, and people were willing to see the benefits collective bargaining could provide them. Union wage rates are a minimum wage. I've gotten paid over the "going rate" for my classification. There is nothing that bars you from making more than the union rate.
There is no such thing as a "living wage"and there is no right to any wage or job, employment etc.
As an employee, you voluntarily sell your time/ labor for a mutually decided upon amount to a purchaser i.e. employer.
Exactly. Why don't they get that if they don't agree on the wage they have the right not to take the job.
Honey, I'm a BSN prepared RN, so don't tell me to 'go to school'. I want better for everyone that works 40 hours, not just ME. Also, I understand quite well how the University system works overseas, I've spent a lot of time there.
Wahoo! A BSN. Sure you want better for everyone but if everyone isn't worth putting forth the effort than they live with the results of their decision. What are you gonna do, hold a gun to their head and force them to go to school and study? Sweetie, if they don't want to do it what it takes you can't force them.
"Honey, I'm a BSN"... I hope your not that con condescending to patients and coworkers.

Exactly. But companies will continue to fight unions because they take profits out of the CEO's pockets and give to middle class Joe. Nevermind that America is full of apathetic nitwits that refuse to stand up for what is right (I'm sure that trickle down economics will kick in soon, just be patient). I'm moving out west next year where there are nursing unions because I want a voice. I worked as a flight attendant and had a union for many, many years, I don't now as an RN. I'll take a union any day.

The poster basically told me to go to school...so I responded. He/she was the condescending one. Although they were probably hoping I was unemployed just complaining about the 'system' (Repubs hate unemployed losers mooching off the system) it turns out I do pretty well for myself and feel everyone should have a decent wage, paid sick time and paid vacation/maternity leave- like I do. Crazy, right?

Yes, I've read a post of yours before and you did the same thing. "Honey I'm a BSN". It was condescending then and is condescending now and meant to be condescending. No one hopes anyone is unemployed, in fact the exact opposite but in today's world, since you liberals "THINK you are helping" it's pretty tough to get a decent job.
Why can't right-wingers understand that their days are over, millenials will take over decades and want to become like those Nordic/Western European, Australian/New Zealand labor and government type system where the government provides life/social saferty net and security, free/very low cost education at all levels, mandatory paid days off from work, universal healthcare, and free from debt! Invest the money on our people, not foreigners and nonsense spending on military, wars, etc.! Millenials are sick and tired of having huge student loan debts while some may not find jobs because it's crappy low wages with some even no benefits, high cost of living, competition and expensive homes/rents, expensive daycares, etc. making life for non-rich people difficult. We pay already high taxes but barely get anything back from them unlike in Europe!!!! Capitalism will eventually die out hopefully...
Cut foreign & military aid, invest on us!!
Socialism is the solution my friend. Free markets are so 1950s.

The Union...laughing all the way to the bank!
In the last 37 years all they have really done is take my money and run...
By the way those evil CEO's railroad capitalists at NS are investing back in my hometown and providing real jobs you can raise a family on...
A voice? In your dreams sweetie...
