Latest poll showing 2 to 1 that Americans believe mental health is the issue and a not guns. This is just further proof that the gun control proponents are losing the fight.

But while many have called for stricter gun laws in their wake, the Post-ABC poll finds far more point to problems treating people with mental health issues. By a more than 2-to-1 margin, more people say mass shootings reflect problems identifying and treating people with mental health problems rather than inadequate gun control laws (63 percent to 23 percent).

Also in the article is that more Americans believe gun laws are either fine the way they are or should be loosened not made more strict.

Not surprising, the anti-gun crowd is really out of touch with the rest of society.

Im kinda surprised the % isnt higher. Seriously we made a horrible mistake when we shut down so much of our mental health facilities. This is the sort of thing that as a society we should be helping people with.

Anyone who thinks the govt should get involved in mental health screening as a means to restrict gun sales is either very naive or a left wing control freak. It's not that long ago that the tin foil hat wearing mental health experts in DC were banging the alarmist drum that vets who expressed dissatisfaction with the govt should be considered a terrorist threat.
The mental health field is full of leftists and if you think climate change scientists are in the states back pocket, you ain't seen nothin yet.

2/3 of Americans have mental health issues. Sounds about right.

When state govts won't act then this happens. Ks has cut back mental health to nearly nothing. 3 months to see a shrink. Had that been the case when i became guardian for chronic paranoid schizophrenic there would have been a lot of dead people.

I'm glad conservatives are taking healthcare seriously now,it only took several mass shootings....

So playing the conservative devil's advocate.... mental health is very expensive, how are going to pay for it? Jack up fees and registration costs for gun ownership?

As was proven in Stillwater last Saturday morning, a mentally ill person can do as much carnage with a car as a gun. 4 dead. Up to 40 or 50 people injured. This country does not adequately address mental health problems.

Mental health issues and guns do not mix at all.

Since mental health is so widespread we need tight gun control. Removing their guns is way easier than to treat their illness.

Most people who have mental issues to this extent already get free healthcare through Medicaid that they do not take advantage of. By scotus ruling individuals cannot be forced to be medicated or treated unless they are a danger to themselves or others as determined by a court of law.
