So, people in New York normally have no food in their house, don't own snow shovels even though it snows there every winter and can't survive in their house for even a few minutes if the power goes out?

An even bigger question is why any of it is the top news story where I am. Idaho.

We have snow storms just like that or worse and it doesn't make the national news. In December there was a huge storm with power outages. It was out for weeks in some areas. There was a year we had three feet of snow within a few hours. School wasn't cancelled 3 days before it happened.

New York has a rush to by food and snow shovels and the news is instructing them to move in with someone else as soon as the power goes out. It snows every year there yet they're always surprised by it somehow. Explain this to me.

1) What's political or controversial about this? Just because you want to use this a proxy to bash New York, doesn't make it political.

2) I think you're confusing the media with the people. No one in NY is surprised when it snows.

3) This was one of the 5 biggest snow storms ever recorded in NYC. It's newsworthy.

You should try visiting some time. You might like it.

Honestly the streets and sidewalks are already pretty much clear. Despite what you hear on the news, this city handles snow very well. We do have politicians who love to tell people they will die if they step outside, though.

How about trying to visit NY instead of making assumptions about people you never met

It is newsworthy to people in New York. To people far away from there is isn't. And I don't think that storm was the big dangerous deal the media made it into. That is the point. It may not be the people, but the media is making you guys look bad. Snow happens in other places in the US every winter, but we hear about New York snow every winter regardless the amount of it.

I wouldn't want to live there, but I would like to visit sometime. I'm sure it has a lot of great things to see. My Grandfather was born there.

So you're saying the news is not being reported accurately? That's believable enough.

Some of you don't get it. That school shooting in Canada that killed 5 is taking a back seat to New York snow in our news here. You don't see something wrong with that?

The snow is affecting 85 million people. I understand people get tired of hearing about NYC, but a lot of people live here.

Last I heard 11 states declared a state of emergency and 85 million people were impacted by this storm.

Having previously lived in a few of the states that were impacted, a snow like this is rather uncommon.

11 states- 85 million people.

It's newsworthy, but that is ALL that is on the news. Same nonsense with Boston last year, or some heat wave in the east in the summer. The rest of us don't care that much. Mention the storm and move on. There are other things happening in the world. The quake in Alaska is barely mentioned for example.
