Scalia was the beginning of the end for a reasonably fair, non-political Supreme Court. The Supreme Court justices have become nothing more than the strong-arm for whichever party they favor.
Arguably the most conservative justice dies with a Democrat still in the White House and a Republican Senate. I wonder if Obama will even nominate a replacement before the election?
It would be interesting to see what happens... I think 6 months is the typical span for a Supreme Court justice which means it should be in play for the rest of the year... Obama has zero leverage right now.... Other than whining and race-baiting.... It would Obama's best interest to get someone in there... I wonder what he is going to offer... Taxes? I can't think of anything else... I wonder what is going to happen now with the current Supreme Court cases....
It's his right to nominate a justice and if the Republicans block it for no other reason that he made the nomination then the Republican ARE evil.
The Democrats stopped President Reagan's nominee Robert Bork in 1987.
