It seems that isis is having financial problems and have been cutting perks to its members such as no more energy drinks or snicker bars. Some fighters have been rationed to 2 meals a day, their free electricity, health care etc.. is also going bye bye.
If it gets bad enough maybe we will start seeing deserters and they will eventually turn on their own.
I wonder if we could say that isis was practicing a form of socialism where they gave their people everything they needed and promised more...
I am waiting for the explosion when the Saudi Royals have to cut back on buying off their enemies. That will be fun to watch if you are a fan of other people's political and literal Armageddon.
To paraphrase: The enemy of my enemy may still be my enemy.
Not that we would see this in the press but Putin pointed out long ago that ISIS fighters had a lot of mercenaries. This was back when people were "mystified" that the people the US supplied with arms decided to switch sides.
It isn't rocket science to cut off a group's funding if you want to end their operations. Without money, you literally can't do anything. Nobody should take credit for that "realization", because it's common sense.

Why wasn't this realization and common sense put into action two years ago or even a year ago ?

Yeah. It is like how Obama didn't want to bomb the oil trucks hauling pay for isis due to concerns for the environment. Do you want to stop these turds or not?
