I think I remember reading an article where one state/county was using retired police to do it....may have even referenced something about using it in future years to ween away from some of the burden of pensions a bit and help cover that cost.

Good posts in here. As has been mentioned already:
1. Eliminate "Designated Victim Zones".... what some may refer to as gun free zones. They are obviously NOT gun free, so call them what they actually are.
2. Enforce existing law.
3. Pay more taxes in order to provide armed security. Pictures of pre-teen prison flash through my head....
4. Focus on what you can do yourself- homeschool your kids.

This is supposed to be the 'Land of the Free and Home of the Brave', so I will take liberty over security any day.

Cut foreign aid by 25 billion dollars and use that money for campus security.

Problem solved.

It's not rocket science.

Celebrities and VIP's have body guards. Their kids attend schools with armed guards. Are regular kids so irrelevant that they don't deserve the same protection?

There is a presence of armed guards/cops/security at large events, malls, airports, many standalone stores.... this isn't a new phenomenon.

ETA: I am not Republican or a Dem. But I am a firm supporter of the 2nd.

Second, you actually enforce the gun laws we have on the books.

Third, meaningfully address mental health access and coverage for the population.

3) Stop treating our youth like they are delicate, victimized snowflakes. Make them tougher, more confident and more capable. Treat them more like adults and they'll act more like adults.

4) Zero tolerance for troublemakers. You cause issues, you go to a special facility.

That would be a start.
these are excellent places to start.

there are many ways to increase security in schools without increasing the budget. start by cutting administrators. put a police substation in each school and assign a few officers there permanently and have a few more regularly do a foot patrol on the school grounds. get retired LEOs to volunteer their time.

and if in the end you cant increase security without increasing the school budget, then talk to the taxpayers, and let them know that the increase in taxes they are paying, a small amount by the way, are for increased security to help keep their children safe from harm.

About 30,000 people die as a result of being shot per year, and half of that is by suicide. To give context, there are about 320,000,000 people in our country. Give me a number of what you would consider a practical amount of tolerable gun deaths. Please do not give me a liberal answer of zero, as that is just not possible. When would you consider gun violence under control (hint: The real answer is never, as its an issue that riles up the liberal base, but has no practical importance in the world we live in), liberals love to live in fear of the practically non-existence threat of dying by a gun. The war on guns is nothing more than a political rallying cry.

Liberals:

"Teaching abstinence is silly we need to teach kids how to have sex safely and responsibly!"

"We need to ban all guns because gun education will never work!"

It's like some alternate universe.

Here is the other sides answer, load up on guns for the fear of the practically non-existent threat to school children.

It's call an issue predicated on irrational fear.

Concerned parents often make the best volunteers. There's a very good chance that you can put an a man or woman with a conceal gun in every room of a school for free. You would need a first-rate vetting process to screen those adults. They'd all need to go through the usual firearms safety training, but if they've already got a CCW they've already done all of that.

Insofar as possible, have teachers who are willing get their CCW and be the guard for their own classroom. But since many will be squeamish about it, solicit for parents to volunteer.

Do this:

Hamas and other terrorist groups regularly attacked Israeli schools an daycares back in the day as they were seen as easy targets. Solution: Arm and train every Israeli teacher. A gunman attacking an Israeli school will have a helluva lot of people shooting back. This is why Muslim terrorist groups completely stopped attacking Israeli schools. In America we have a epidemic of ******* copy-cats who are looking to be the next Columbine shooter/shooters. Israel's solution is the only solution that works and can be done immediately.

Can't argue with the results, can you?
the teachers in Israel have been through the military and guns aren't a liberal vs. conservative issue there. it's not a culture that's afraid of a gun. not when you're completely surrounded by countries who want to crush you and have tried for 70 years.
