Hire armed guards at schools.

It's not rocket science.

Celebrities and VIP's have body guards. Their kids attend schools with armed guards. Are regular kids so irrelevant that they don't deserve the same protection?

There is a presence of armed guards/cops/security at large events, malls, airports, many standalone stores.... this isn't a new phenomenon.

First, you get rid of "Gun Free Zones" in places like schools because all a "Gun Free Zone" does is invite criminals to attack unarmed people including schoolchildren.

Second, you actually enforce the gun laws we have on the books.

Third, meaningfully address mental health access and coverage for the population.

1) Better physical security at schools. Advertise that security on every door that allows entry into the school.

2) Mandatory firearms training in schools... remove the mystery, make it boring.

3) Stop treating our youth like they are delicate, victimized snowflakes. Make them tougher, more confident and more capable. Treat them more like adults and they'll act more like adults.

4) Zero tolerance for troublemakers. You cause issues, you go to a special facility.

That would be a start.

Wayne LaPierre invoked his perception of the security systems at schools in Israel to reinforce his proposals. Mr. LaPierre said "Israel had a whole lot of school shooting" yet Israel authorities could only recall two in the past four decades.

JERUSALEM "Israel's policy on issuing guns is restrictive, and armed guards at its schools are meant to stop terrorists, not crazed or disgruntled gunmen, experts said Monday, rejecting claims by America's top gun lobby that Israel serves as proof for its philosophy that the U.S. needs more weapons, not fewer.

Far from the image of a heavily armed population where ordinary people have their own arsenals to repel attackers, Israel allows its people to acquire firearms only if they can prove their professions or places of residence put them in danger. The country relies on its security services, not armed citizens, to prevent terror attacks. ..."

again I am just being devils advocate, but schools budget's are already tight. How do we pay for this? An armed security guard? Realistically it would have to be more than one. Should this be sponsored through some sort of PTA Fundraiser. Or should the police force be responsible for providing this security? Or through the district as employees?

First of all, you can't compare a teeny tiny country (size of NJ) to the entire US.

2nd, everyone in Israel serves a minimum of 2 yrs in the army. So everyone has experience using a firearm. You can't make the same argument here in the US where guns are so polarizing, mostly because people don't know anything about them nor have they even touched one.

3rd - in light of the recent uptick in stabbings by Palestinians and other Arabs, Israeli gov't is rethinking that policy. (in response to what I bolded above)

I agree with the NRA on this one.... enforce the gun laws we already have

keep the violent criminals in prison forever

the majority of violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders whom should have never been released
