"Norwegian Air Shuttle, the parent airline attempting to launch NAI, likes to pride itself on being a low-cost European airline, but the launch of NAI isn’t an attempt to enter the U.S. market. In fact, Norwegian Air Shuttle already flies into the United States. Instead, the operating model it plans for its Norwegian Air subsidiary takes a page from the unfair trade playbook. NAI will use temporary labor by employing Bangkok-based flight crews under short-term Singaporean or Thai employment contracts. This move will allow Norwegian Air to boost profits by beating down workers’ wages and benefits and gaming trade rules."

The administration is set to allow Norwegian Air to fly into the U.S. while avoiding Norway's labor laws.l

This isn't a case of overpaid burger flippers or $15/hour jobs. These are guys with your life in their hands.

This is a foreign airline flying into the US but US pilot's unions see it as thin wedge and are fighting it. If allowed, Norwegian Air’s flag-of-convenience model (used by shipping and cruise liens) could be used by US airlines to lower costs.

Are you still anti-union?

Let's hope that the obsession over free trade, open borders, offshoring, etc. will come to an end with our next president. Otherwise we will continue to see industry after industry and occupation after occupation disappear from this country.

Those Asian flight crew will be paid well in terms of their country's salaries... Are you liberals against redistributing rich European wealth to the less fortunate Asian countries? Do you liberals secretly hate the poor and are racists?

Personally, I'm against using "Who will work the cheapest?" as the criterion for hiring my flight crew.

First off, I don't consider myself a liberal and I think desetdetroiter can attest to that. I'd be totally in favor of "redistributing rich European [and American] wealth to the less fortunate Asian cointries" as long as our labor laws were also redistributed. If the playing field is level in the sense that all the laws that American businesses have to follow are also required to be followed by foreign companies that do business here, I would have no opposition to foreign competition.

What is racist is when we say that American workers need protection, but foreign workers don't.

You seem pretty concerned about how this will affect your safety while flying.

Are you just as concerned for what the ACA may do when you get sick?

But hey why dont we talk about the ACTUAL topic.

No worries folks, a lot of its automated. And eventually we wont need the flight crew at all.
