Obviously he had a clean record. Meaning he wouldn't break the law to buy a gun illegally... so it could have been prevented. He would have thought twice about breaking gun laws if guns were illegal.
Just making sure you were calling for banning all guns.

For clarity you should remember "banning guns" is not "stricter gun laws".
What do you know . . . . . Mr. Trump, sometimes it is just a self-loathing closeted gay mass shooters. Don't forget to "temporarily" ban those people from our country, too.
I read a few of the posts on this first page and thought I would just respond to the first post.
I think Mateen may have used ISIS as an excuse rather than it being the real reason. The reason I say that is because he seems to have been quite violent since childhood. He wasn't particularly religious. He didn't even understand the difference between the different Islamic factions.
So, without ISIS, he probably still would have become a mass shooter.
Most mass shooters are white males and he fits that profile to a T.
The dude was a mess...he was a confused, angry, and mentally ill guy. I won't get into the slanderous personal stuff, but he claimed loyalty to opposing Islamic groups. To me it seems this event was just him violently venting his demons like Columbine...but because he is Muslim and said the magical words everybody immediately loses their ****. The left's immediate response is to go after guns while the right goes on a terrorism rant.
I didn't realize, until this happened, that we actually have gay Muslims in the USA. There are quite a few of them. I guess Islam, as practiced here, isn't exactly like it is over there.

Mateen had allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS in a 911 call during the attack, as The Two-Way has reported. But as further details emerge about the shooter, investigators say Mateen's profile is more like that of a "typical mass shooter" than an individual radicalized by ISIS, as NPR's Dina Temple-Raston reports.
In fact, intelligence officials and investigators say they're "becoming increasingly convinced that the motive for this attack had very little — or maybe nothing — to do with ISIS."
This is pure obfuscation by NPR and the government sources quoted. Mateen grew up in a house with a father who supports the Taliban, so he hardly needed ISIS to teach him that gays are evil and worthy of death. He no doubt already learned that from Dad. He didn't need to be "radicalized". All he needed to be was Muslim, since the view that gays should die is common in the Muslim world, especially in the Mateen homeland of Afgahnistan.

I said it is possible. We wont find out the real reasons because of this reason, he is DEAD. We will only get second-hand reasons and speculation, not the full story. FYI, I know people who are NOT Trump supporters who are claiming it is religious. Nice stereotyping there.

Honestly, If I were to start a thread like this. Here is how I would word it.
The liberal MSM wants you to think the Orlando attack investigators are convinced that the attack had little or nothing to do with ISIS....................................It is what Obama wants them to say and you to believe.

At least if he was a true ISIS operative he would be part of a known enemy, and we could be discussing ways to fight something tangible.
It's the idea that he's more like Adam Lanza or James Holmes that scares me more, violent murderous young men who do this crap for no real reason whatsoever. And I think he is more like those guys. He just happened to be Muslim and could use Islamic terrorism as inspiration the same way some use Klebold and Harris.
Bottom line?
He was a Muslim ( & Registered Democrat) that committed an act of Terror.
Doesn't make one iota of difference whether or not he had a Membership Card from ISIS.
