I guess the Secular people are using common sense?

Why is Secular European Society Doing So Much Better Than God-Fearing America?

Quote:
In a series of essays I am exploring the sociological reasons that the prosperous democracies with high levels of religiosity – the conservative and creationist USA most of all – tend to have high levels of social dysfunction, and vice versa. In previous essays we looked at specific subjects such as youth sex, marriage and divorce, and child rearing. The last posted offering in this series showed that some factors such as America’s frontier heritage, immigration, ethnic and racial disparities, and media violence do not fully explain America’s exceptional level of social ills. This, the final piece in the series, looks at the broad and fascinating combination of factors that sociological science has shown is producing the best conditions in history in the progressive secular democracies.

I thought secularism is about separation of state and religion. Not about whether a nation is God fearing or not.

I think publicized religion had its time and place -- it was a way to regulate people's behavior before there was reliable law enforcement and the like. It was also a way to answer questions people honestly couldn't otherwise, like 'how do people become lepers'.

And I still do think religion is fine on a personal level. But on a more public level, not only is religion unnecessary for such purposes, it too often interferes with real-world advancements.

Secularism is a belief system that also rejects religion.

The US can blame most of its domestic problems on retaining a permanent underclass which has nothing to do with religion but everything to do with government and culture.

But it's always nice to bash people you don't like.

When comparing "white America" to Europe, almost everything from crime to education to life expectancy is the same.

Let's have this conversation in 20 years. We can talk about how wonderful secular Sweden and France are then.

Have you read Europe news, I mean Eurabia news recently?? They did well for a while but are going downhill. It might take decades for their economy to recover. I blame their relaxed borders. Their tourism is suffering badly because they are being invaded by radicals. Its great being secular & treating people as equals but have rules about law & order. If someone's religion requires them to murder Christian, are you going to let them because you want to remain 'secular'?? People can make up whatever belief they want but one belief that unites an entire nation is patriotism. That should be above everything else. A God-fearing redneck might not be secular but I can bet you he is patriotic & thats what really matters to me. Religion should always be a personal choice & never be used in politics or to run the govt. Secular or not, be patriotic above everything else.
