Thomas Jefferson did not have a part in writing the constitution or the 1st amendment.
The groundwork for the First was laid when Jefferson and Madison hammered out the religious protection clause in Virginia, and both were adamant in their writings that it had nothing to do with Christianity and everything to do with keeping the state out of people's minds. Jefferson was instrumental in shaping the arguments that Madison used to argue for the First. Yes, there were several attempts to water it down to "sects" or "denominations", but they were thrown out during debate.
The Founding Fathers were smart, educated and they thought deeply about things. The idea that the First was meant to protect Christians only , but they kinda-sorta forgot to put it in writing is hardly worth considering.
The genetic stock that descended from those here primarily before 1870 to 1600.
Ah, so it's your genetic material that makes you a "historical American". Good thing nothing bad ever came from people trying to argue politics based on genetic material.
Guys, it's pretty simple. If you can legally put a synagogue on a plot, you can legally put a mosque there. City governments obstructing that are breaking the law. Then they get sued.
You can dream up all the alternate scenarios you like - about how the First should only apply to Christianity or how the better genetic material should prevail or how the US really should be at war with Islam - but in the real world, it really is cut-and-dried.
"Thank you for reading and considering our perspective. If we do not receive a positive
response before or at next public meeting on Aug 22nd, we will have no choice but to ask the
Department of Justice to take action against Newton County for religious discrimination."
Agree or get sued!
In the letter from their attorney he states, "Local leaders also expressed opposition to the mosque because it is a mosque", is this what happened? If so that is discrimination and the justice department should look into this.
What's Commissioner Keith Ellis' reason for denying the construction of the mosque?
This needs to be looked at closely because Georgia is a hotbed of Neo-Confederate and white nationalist ideology...
Many people on this forum and in the USA will probably not know what it is to have a mosque next to their home or close to it like many have in Europe.
It is not like a Church is over here or a Temple.
Mosques in Europe have loudspeakers on the roof which have muslim music or sounds and prayers come through the huge speakers which has caused a lot of nuisance amongst neighbors.
On top of that many go for prayers 5 x a day and there aren't many religious people within other faiths who go 5 x a day.
There have a been a lot of issues with mosques in areas and that is aside for the recruiting and hate preaching that clearly has been proven to be happening in mosques.
If that all hadn't occurred than I bet there wouldn't be so many threads about this religion.

I've lived near a mosque and understand the sound issues. I've also lived next to a church and had church bells ringing daily. In both cases, they were noticeable/bothersome when I first moved in and then faded into the background and was easily ignored, kind of the like the incessant lawnmower noise I have now living in the suburbs and surrounded by retirees who seem to do nothing but mow their lawns over and over.
That said, if the noise is an issue for neighbors, then a noise ordinance should be taken up for the community. They could even do that preemptively before the mosque was built.
