SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois' longest-serving prison inmate won't be getting out on parole this year.

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board voted 14-0 to deny parole for 78-year-old William Heirens.

Heirens was convicted of the 1945 killings of two Chicago women and the 1946 kidnapping, dismemberment and murder of a 6-year-old girl. He was sentenced to three back-to-back life terms and has spent 61 years behind bars.

At this point what would he do anyway if given parole?? He's 78 years old now!! What move him from a prison to a nursing home or assisted care place??
It's the only life he's known for decades, as it should be.

The minute this guy goes out, he will become a public charge. Who will give him a job?? Who will pay his bills??

Also, did we just not see 2 "non-dangerous parolees" in Connecticut come out and rape a 11 year old and a mother of 2 and then tie them up and set them on fire???

Parole is becoming a problem. I think some inmates need to be paroled after a while, but the majority of them should not.

Sadly, the question really, is why didn't they stick a needle in this guy 60 years ago?

Which brings us to the real point of the thread. You are from Illlinois and I don't know the answer to this. Does Illinois have the death penalty and if not -what's the matter with you folks?
Who will be the first to post the aged arguement that Capital Punishment is not a deterrent, is inhumane and therefore shouldn't be allowed. Even Bill O'Reiily doesn't believe in capital punishment. So much for his sense of intellectual superiority.
Deterrent, who cares? Punishment, vindication, that is the syrup on my pancakes. There is evil in the world. The innocent child he killed would now be 66 yrs. old. What did she miss? What did we miss?
To me the greatest irony of all is that typically the same person that is pro abortion is the same person that is anti capital punsihment.
Now that is a poll I'd like to see here. Only people that classify themselves as liberal need respond. I bet you'd see the bar run quickly off the page that read, "I am both pro abortion and anti capital punishment".
How do people of the same culture, language, and education come up with such opposing belief systems?
I am about to come to the conclusion that some of us were actually made the way the Old Testament describes, or other wise brought here by a higher intelligence and some of us are descended of apes. That is the only plausible bottom line explanation I can come up with. Sorta like Neanderthals and Homosapiens coexisting. Just a little different branch. There is some relevance to genetic make up, can't possibly be all environmental.

He's almost 80 years old for crying out loud! I say let him out, maybe to an assisted living facility. I actually feel sorry for him having sat in prison for 60+ years...
