Seems like its a waste. If a donor body is brain dead, then its organs could be harvested and many other could benefit. I think if his life has gotten so bad as to need a new body, he should be ready to let go and just end the suffering.

Personally I find the ethics of this a bit sketchy, but it does make me wonder if anything can be learned from the process that could help people with life changing spinal injuries in the future.

I agree. These surgeons are obviously very talented people. Think of the lives they could save if they spent that time and investment on something more commonplace.

The issue for many is that with so many people waiting for donors, why risk all of the materials that could save many lives on an extremely doubtful transplant for just one person.
