Based on the 14 years I have spent as a brown woman doctor, I believe these incidents happened. This sh** happens all the effin time. Even in your own hospital. Just happened to me on Friday.
Also, who the heck carries credentials with them all the time (esp vacation)?
Unlike what many people assume, there is no such thing as a universal doctor card you carry around in your wallet. Some states give you a wallet copy of your medical license (why? who knows?), but many do not.
Does this really bother you though?
I mean...this case and the other one could very well be instances of an individual not believing one is a doctor based on race or gender but my question then turns to:
Why would it bother someone?
Aside from the obvious paradigm of perhaps saving a life in an emergency situation I wouldn't care.
That's one thing that rubs me the wrong way: these doctors come out and complain about not being believed instead of focusing on the fact that a person could have been in serious trouble/near death in these situations.
I have a pretty negative opinion on doctors overall though. I'll admit that. I'm pretty convinced in this day and age they are nearly universally useless.
Or trying to hit a jackpot. When you become a doctor based on greed and ambition and based on your gender and race, why not?

NoRecess, it wears on your soul when you are constantly being put down or reminded of your assumed inferiority bc of your gender. One time here or there is one thing. All the time wears you out.
And of course on the plane it is about the patient and their emergency. Why else volunteer? Most times you get no compensation and you open yourself up to liability.
If it were about the money, I would not have gotten into a specialty where we vow to take care of anyone at any time regardless of their ability to pay.

Not ignorant, I know what the average MCAT scores vs percentage of admitted are by race and that it is higher for Asian but being female is a preference. I'm not so ignorant to not know that grading is also done on a preference in undergrad. Oftentimes the difference between getting an A or a C is being the right gender and skin color.
By the time she went to offer assistance there were already 2 nurses aiding the passenger. If it's not a life or death matter, how many medical professionals does it take? It is strange that she very clearly noted the skin color of the nurses, repeatedly saying Caucasian nurses.
Surely the airline could review footage to see if there was an issue. If the flight attendant was rude, an apology would be in order.
