When Is The Appropriate Time for Mr. Trump To Release His Tax Returns?
The following is from the President-elect's interview with Leslie Stahl on 60 Minutes:
Quote:
Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna release your tax returns?
Donald Trump: At the appropriate time, I will release them. But right now I’m under routine audit. Nobody cares. The only one who cares is, you know, you and a few people that asked that question. Obviously, the public didn’t care because I won the election very easily. So they don’t care. I never thought they did care.
Personally, I think more than a few people, besides Leslie Stahl, have asked & cared about that question. Being under routine audit does not prevent disclosure. For vetting purposes, the appropriate time to evaluate was before the election. As it stands now, the President-elect has stated he will determine the appropriate time.
The American people, all of us, are being asked to give him a chance. Mr. Dave Chapelle is willing to do so however made an excellent point, he suggests President-elect Trump give us one in return. One way he could do so is to be trustworthy - to act in ways to earn trust. Thus far, & admittedly it may be soon, I remain unimpressed with his efforts.
What's the issue with releasing his tax returns? Would it be too damaging to his 'Branding'? Is it like the 'Emperor's New Clothes'?
Personally, I'm finding his transition to be unsettling, troubling, problematic, both domestically & re: foreign affairs.
I remember another time when the American people were emotionally coerced into 'standing by their President' even if they hadn't voted for him & weren't comfortable about trusting him to make wise decisions - we are still involved in the results/consequences of those poor decisions.
Can people shut up about the Tax returns? He said he will give up the returns when Hillary gives up the 33k emails she deleted and smashed with hammers ...

What are your thoughtviews?
I think in some cases it may be less a matter of people not caring, but of people not wanting to know.
The tradition of releasing tax forms when running for president is officially dead. At this point, I expect the only way we will see Trump's tax returns are if they are hacked and released to the public.
