The U.S. is not number one. Not in measures of societal health anyway.
We are number one when it comes to the % of our population in prison. But that's not exactly something to brag about.
The US is by far the best country in the world. You'd be hard pressed to find a more free country with the opportunity for success that we have here. There's a reason people from all over the world still want to come here. Sure, we have problems like any country, but there is nowhere better.

That's not true. We are no longer #1 on anything good.
You have been taught to believe that for a particular reason.
Nope, not at all. I've seen the success of my family going back 3 generations. The American dream, it's real. With hard work and a little brain power, you can be successful in the US!
Man, all the "debbie downers" here! You should all just leave if you think it sucks here!

And?
Hard-working immigrants have succeeded all around the world. There is nothing special about the "American Dream". Your anecdotal evidence still doesn't support the notion that the U.S. is world's best nation. It's not a strong argument.

I don't live in the United States.
Perfect, than you should stay where you are, and I'll stay in the US. And I still say my country is better than yours!!!
Oh, and it may be anecdotal to you, but not for me!
It's supposed to be the left and right working towards compromise for the entire nation which is made up of both left and right. Government is supposed to understand that you can't make everyone happy, yet strive for balance. Instead we have the UFC squaring off in the Pentagon (in reference to an octagon or a ring...you get the point).
When division and separation happens at the government level, it pours down in spades to the general population, thus dividing the nation as we have seen since the general election began. I see no benefit to have either side rule, because by default half the nation will be out of focus in government. When it's mixed, at least the entire nation is out of focus which puts us all on the same level.
