Default China Sending New Message to President-Elect Trump?

There have been several incidents in the South China Sea area that the U.S. would find disturbing. However, in the latest China has seized a U.S. underwater exploration vessel.

China 'seizes US vessel' in S China Sea - BBC News

I wonder, how likely is it that this is going to be the start of an escalating tit-for-tat game...and up to what point? How might a scenario of steadily deteriorating relations with China affect relations with other countries, both in the area and much farther away.

Yeah, like the Chinese weren't antagonistic before Trump won.

Yeah, that's about right, lol. Anyway, we can't have anything distracting us from Russian hacking and how Hillary should have won the presidency. Now hush.

I still think China is a much larger threat than Russia, and I love how their hacking was all but ignored. China's provocation seems to be growing. Little things here and there (that are also being ignored by 'news' sources), but it's a bit worrisome.
