Thanks to NAFTA, making China the most favored trade partner, and the rest, 1/3rd of manufacturing workers in America require welfare to survive and provide for their families. They work hard and contribute, but receive not much more than a handout.
It is a handout. That's exactly what they are getting and that's exactly what you are debating. To give them handouts.
It is corporate welfare when we subsidize their pay. 800 workers at Carrier in Indiana just got a $7 million welfare payment. So if 1/3 need 'traditional welfare' to survive, I guess another 1/3 have their hands out asking for corporate welfare. First is the $7 million for workers in Indiana. Next taxpayers will give more corporate welfare for the next batch. Tariffs and trade mores will be more corporate welfare payments coming out of the pockets of all Americans.
People in the US will be artificially holding up the manufacturing workers by subsidizing the paycheck of the factory worker with money coming from other Americans. Welfare is welfare is welfare. They are getting a handout.

America is in debt like never before. America as a whole needs a handout. That is not a good thing. I do not call that "progress" in any universe. Obviously, what we have been doing has not been working out for the best (unless you are a "1%er"). So if you like creating wealth inequality, useless unproductive debt and a massive trade deficit, keep trying to elect losers like Obama and Clinton. Thanks to the last clown, lots of Americans are getting a handout, and they would like to double down on the policies that produce these results.
From what I've read, he isn't doing that nor is that what Obama said he would do.
Trump has said it is what he will do, and you said Obama proposed the same thing. I did not recall such proposal from Obama, and now I know why. It never happened.
As is always the case with Trump's shallow populism, the pesky facts get in the way once you dig beneath the bumpersticker slogans. He says "Kill NAFTA, it's been a disaster!" Except what he either doesn't know or deliberately hides is the fact that 5 million American jobs are directly tied to the free export of goods to Mexico and Canada. NAFTA is free trade, both ways. And as Mexico's economy continues to improve, they continue to import and buy goods and services from the USA.
Go ahead Trump, put up a big tariff and kill NAFTA: do it and you put 5 million Americans out of work.
Tariff or import tax is just to make things more expensive. Some critical imports more expensive can trigger economy wide inflation. How is an average worker afford living with things more expensive? Trade war protectionism usually is used on a very limited basis, temporarily. Does Trump knows all that or he's just trouble?
We can still make electoral voters to quite, and not to vote Trump in December convention to abort Trump presidency.
What is your thoughts on your tax dollars subsidizing Chinese solar panel manufacturers at the epxpense of US job?
