Already a thread on this. Saw the video on the local news this morning. Yes, it was justified and warranted. The officer told him repeatedly to drop the weapons, but the crowd of students trying to get their videos created a serious situation as they ignored orders to get the hell out of there. The kid was out of his mind and there was an immediate danger of him rushing the crowd.
The officer had no choice, but to his credit it didn't appear to me he was trying to kill the kid. He just had no other options but to use his gun. A truly sad situation.
Nice try, OP. This obvious liberal writes "police officer shots teen" and forgets to write "...who stabbed a classmate," which is part of the title in the video he actually links to. You should send screenshots of this thread to NBC or CNN, you'd probably get a job in minutes.
The problem is apparently the kid was a regular bullying victim and was defending himself against an attack by multiple people. Now it gets complex. Of course he should not nave had a knife. But of course he should not have been attacked. You really need a full video of what went down to forma an opinion.
And the question is why not a taser or at least words prior to the shot?

He told him to back off. As to why he didn't used a taser some officers aren't issued tasers. Or it could be that he didn't had time to draw the taser as most cops who carry them carry it cross draw and that's slower. Either why he was completely justified in using lethal force. Tasers can either not work or actually kill someone.
I watched most of the video- he looks like a little, scared kid acting out. (He is a prime example of the kids I used to work with ..)..
A bean bag shotgun (that I have seen deployed by police) would have caused less damage and medical bills and he would have still gotten the help he needed/ and ended the situation sooner (less grandstanding for his peers around him)...
Apparently, the boy drew the knife to fend off an attack from several other students.
