I would actually have a lot more respect for the GOP if they pushed through with the Gingrich plan to shut the government down in the event a drilling vote doesn't happen.

I think they should do this. democrats are running from this issue. actually, both parties have been running from this issue for so long. it's kind of hard to get anything done with one party sides with oil companies, and the other sides with environmental extremists. the citizens are the only losers.

What needs to happen is that Congress gets together one more time and agree not to address oil and gas ever again, which means letting the ban expire, never voting on another ban, never discussing subsidies or tax breaks (or windfall taxes) for oil companies. Nothing. They should do absolutely nothing with respect to energy, as the market has and is proving itself infinitely more effective and competent than career politicians who don't have a clue about money.
