Worse, I think it's the fox saying he's going to investigate himself to see if there was any wrongdoing with regard to what happened to those poor hens he was seen with before they met their demise.

Comey only went to the media when he announced that he wouldn't recommend charges, and when announced the new evidence didn't change the initial decision not to recommend charges.
So in other words, Comey only went public to clear Hillary.
