Exactly. He might as well have wrapped toilet paper around his neck.

Govt patting itself on the back, no different than Hollywood doing it with all its self-congratulatory ceremonies and just as meaningful.

Biden on Obama: "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean"
You realize he didn't LITERALLY mean "the first," don't you?

He was referring to Obama being the first mainstream AA candidate for president. I am not keen on the use of the word "articulate" to refer to a black person like it's surprising to find that a black person can be articulate, but that's not racist so much as it's just a microaggression and at Biden's age, I don't think anyone who was reasonable could hold it against him.

I'm quite confident that his 8 years with Obama and their obvious bonds of friendship have changed Joe's speaking habits for the better in this regard.

But, you can also keep spinning the "Biden is a hideous racist" thing if you like. Won't make it accurate.

And there would have been nothing wrong with that. Where Biden's racism rears its ugly head is when he added the bolded words: "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean"

As if it is unexpected for an African American to be articulate, bright, and clean.

That is REALLY offensive.

Honestly, that's a sign of a good VP.
I'm not that troubled by Biden receiving this.

I am troubled by Obama giving the medal of freedom to his own vice president though. Do some of that bridge building with the Trump administration and wait until next month and have Trump do it.

If Trump won't do it, then tough. Biden gets to wait it out until another POTUS is elected who will (and Obama can feel free to lobby for him to receive the medal).
It just looks bad and sets a bad precedent for the POTUS to award the country's highest honor to his own VP. This is something banana republic dictators do. (Speaking of precedent, has this been done before?)

Yeah, Ford did.

"He was referring to Obama being the first mainstream AA candidate for president."

Is he?

He has no real identity. He is half-white, which he rejects.
The rest of him is mostly Arab, which he hides but is disclosed by his non-African Arabic surname and his Arabic first and middle names as a way to triply proclaim his Arabic parentage to people in Kenya . Only a small part of him is African Black from his Luo grandmother, which he pretends he is exclusively.

What he isn't, not a genetic drop of, is 'African-American,' the
descendant of enslaved Africans brought to America chained in
slave ships. He hasn't a single ancestor who was a slave. Instead, his Arab ancestors were slave owners. Slave-trading was the main Arab business in East Africa for centuries until the British ended it.

Good God. Stop obsessing about Obama's race and start focusing on the walking, tweeting disaster that you just voted in.

I don't know if you've heard ~ but Obama is leaving office.

Cannot find much historical perspective on that one.
Also interesting to note that the award was "with Distinction" which is particularly rare.
