Most people believe that Obama been allowed to run, he would have defeated Donald Trump for his third term.

The amendment that prohibits presidents from running for a third-term, came immediately after the end of WWII, when FDR won four straight elections, by wide margins(in his last election, he won 423 electoral votes to 99).

FDR was one of the greatest presidents in American History, and he led us out of the Great Depression, and to our great victory in WWII. He enacted a variety of social-security programs, as well as the federal minimum wage.

But jealous Republicans, terrified of another great liberal president like FDR coming along, pushed through term limits, which prevented other great men like Bill Clinton from running in 2000, and Obama from running 2016, so that the pendulum could swing them back into power.

Why should the most-unpopular president in history be allowed to take office, when the majority of the country doesn't want him, and when someone people like far more, and who would have defeated him in a national election, is already sitting in the White House?

BTW, before anyone thinks I've gone crazy, this is satire.

I was talking to a friend of mine about how people aren't actually as opposed to authoritarianism/dictatorship as they pretend to be.

The truth is, people love dictators, as long as they like their dictator. They love authoritarianism, as long as they agree with the authority.

The idea that people want freedom, or democracy, is a delusion.

People want what they want, they don't really care how they get it.

I told my friend that the political-left would gladly appoint Obama as their King, if by doing so, they could thwart Trump, and push this country "to the left".

Likewise, the political-right would gladly give Trump a variety of "special" or "unconstitutional" powers, if it served their interests.

I got a laugh at the part in blue.

For the part in red, because we are a nation of laws.

BTW, Obama has one of the lowest average approval ratings, only Jimmy Carter was worse.

No. Only someone like Vladimir Putin has the right to be president for life.

Of course he can't continue on for 4 more years, for at least two legal reasons. This has got to be a satire or emotion-baiting thread. Moderators?

If Bill Clinton could have run for a third term he would have beaten the idiot frat boy from Texas. How would that have turned out for America as we look back 16 years later?

And how would we fare if President Obama stayed 4 more years instead of Trump?

If we would be better off with Obama, then why should we allow Trump to take over?

Isn't there far more at stake here, than some 230-year old piece of paper that no one really cares about?

In Obama's Farewell address, he said...

"Our Constitution is a remarkable, beautiful gift. But it’s really just a piece of parchment. It has no power on its own. We, the people, give it power."

Why should we obey this parchment? Isn't the power rightfully held by the people?

When a parchment is used as a weapon against the people, it has no power.
