NATO does serve a legitimate purpose.

The recent speculation about Trump's ties to Russia have colored my opinion on this topic.
So what, you would like to see us go to war with Russia over Ukraine or something? No thanks. Let Europe fend for themselves, says I.

The GDP of Russia is about one seventh of the EU. About the size of Spain's. I think they can handle Russia without us.I would give them 10 years while reduced our assistance by 10% a year.

Trump: NATO Is 'Obsolete'
Dude, NATO can't pay for its own defense, because NATO is the defense..... it DEFENDS countries.

perhaps what you really meant was some NATO members have been under paying....

But consider this, it is the USA that pushed to put its NUKES in the EU, it is the USA that insists on keeping its fleets floating around the globe as if we were at war status.

The real reason we spend trillions "defending" the world is that we are enforcing our policies on the entire globe. We can not turn back from it without giving up control, so really it is a choice.

We could back off and let china deal with the east, we could back off and let the middle east run itself, we could back off and eastern Europe figure out its own issues.

Or we can continue keeping trade routes wide open, and keeping Russia contained. Or not, in fact it is very complex and hard to know exactly what to do. But isolation is the worst idea possible for the USA, that benefits only Trumps plutocrat cronies, they would love to make the USA a fearful authoritarian state.

Obsolete, frankly Trump does not have a ****ing clue what he is talking about, he is just using xenophobe bs to distract you while he opens the door for Rex and the plutocrats to loot the USA and enrich Putin.

you should really spend some time learning about the greater world before swallowing whatever trump offers up.
