We can't hide behind walls because we are scared of people who look/pray/speak different or because we are afraid they will compete with us for jobs. That's the reality - for better or worse - of the world we live in today.
Isolating ourselves from the world will create a void that will be happily filled by China, Russia, and new organizations like the proposed CANZUK union. Canada doesn't need us, Mexico doesn't need us ... but we sure do need the free movement of goods and people. Would you rather pay $20 for a head of lettuce or $1,000 for an iPhone?
All across the world (except for the US and Western Europe where Russian propaganda has successfully led people to cower in fear of anyone who looks or speaks or prays differently) countries are uniting and forming unions. In Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Bloc we have the Union State/Eurasian Economic Union. In Latin America we have CELAC, UNASUR, ALBA all of which are closely aligned with Russia and China and led avowedly anti-American leaders like Raul Castro and Nicholas Maduro.
We're endangering our national interests because some rubes in Kentucky and Alabama are scared of Muslims and Mexicans and/or were too stupid to learn marketable skills. Donald Trump isn't make us great again, he's taking us backwards towards becoming an irrelevant rump state. An American version of North Korea. But hey, as long as we stick it to the darkies and the Muzzies it's all good right?
nothing wring with trade unions and pacts as long as they are equitable for all members. USA is usually getting the short end of the stick and bearing the majority of the burden.
Perhaps your arguement would be better if you were not so snarky and generalize trump voters and southerners as 'rubes'. I live in the south and have never heard anyone use the therms "darkies" or "muzzies" - frankly, I only hear liberals use those words.
Problem with your position OP is that it is established on a false premise.
This is why progressives are out of touch. They spend all their time creating straw mans for their opposition that they have no clue of what the oppositions position really is.

No, we need to clean our own house and eliminate the cause of people fighting to come illegally, the fact that they find someone to give them work. Eliminate those who hire them and benefit from cheap, illegal labor.

lovely- as most Americans not really from here- all you have in your favor, is timing- one thing to remember the problem came from the corporations-- not the people - THEY created this mess and bought the politicians- but you will NOT hold them accountable

Liberals and democrats are the people who are completely out of their minds, obsessed, with any person's race or skin color.
Islam, a voluntary ideology, has a sacred book which is explicitly sexist and homophobic (although not racist at least). It also mentions slavery without unequivocally condemning it (and makes it ok for certain people), has special monetary penalties for no-believers and special punishments for apostates. I suppose that's ok if you are one of those who maintains the that all religions are equivalent (they never could be since they are different ideologies, Buddishm is not Jainism is not Christianly, and different ideologies have different outcomes). I suppose that's ok if you are one of those who think largely impotent Christianity is equivalent to potent Islam in regard to shaping the society they are part of. (Look at human rights and you will find it doesn't fall on a neutrally dispersed basis).
You might think we need more sexist homophobes in this country. Many of us think we already have enough home-grown ones and don't need any more.
