After talking to a friend more than once who is a self-described "far-left progressive", I think they're uneducated. She doesn't keep up with the news. That was her response when she threw some tidbits at me and I asked her about what was happening in Europe.
They're jumping on the 'OMG, Donald Trump is going to deport all Muslims' train, when he's talking about Muslims from specific parts of the world, who seem to be problematic wherever they go. American Muslims are westernized and not at all the same, in my opinion. Those already here from other countries and doing well are also fine, again, in my opinion.
So the short answer is - they're uninformed and ignorant and react (and overreact) on nothing but pure emotion and falsehoods.
