What is causing the decline in birth rate in the US and Mexico?

I was reading a news article that less people are having kids now and having kids later on in life. One or two kids seem to be norm these days. Long are days of having lots of kids.

It not just the US and Mexico!!! But places like the UK, Brazil and Canada.

Is it high cost of living? Or the use of birth control bills now or abortion? It was not like this in the 90's.

I cannot afford to have children. I work hard and make a good income, but I'm forced to hand a large chunk of that income over to the government. They use this money to support the poor, who cannot afford to have children, but do anyway.

I'm sure there are many others who share in my experience.

Yes and no. If the 3rd world countries kept their pop growth around 2 kids per woman; I'd agree. But; decent countries NEED to have enough kids to keep the breeder countries from trying to overrun us.

3rd world: Mexico is at the top end of that level of income per person but Afghanistan, Haiti and so on are at the bottom level.

In the 90's there was lots of Mexicans having kids and lots of kids. It even had high number of teens having kids. But now birth rate is really decline in Mexico for some strange reason.

Not sure if it is birth control pills or abortion. Or the cost of living really gone up or what.

The wealthier a nation grows there is a decline in birth rates. Look at Japan in the 1980's, in the US baby boomers are retiring & their offspring value wealth more than having children.
Mexico is not a 3rd. world country either. The Italians are also having a issue with negative birth rates as well as many Scandinavian "Socialist" nations.

Bottom line? Children are expensive to raise in first world countries.

Maybe the 47 thousand PLUS, people recently killed in mexico and the continuing slaughter that the media, UN and obama refuse to recognize are to blame?

In times of stress rabbits produce less offspring.
