There are probably 3 or 4 points to be made

1. "ESPN", consists of about 15 total networks including the SEC network which is worth more than the NBA, NHL, and MLB channels combined.

2. ESPN has 4 of the top 15 sports networks including #1, #4, #5, and #12.

3. ESPN has lost a lot of talent, Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd are 2 of the biggest .

4. Yes, there are some political things.

5. Most streaming services are free.

Plus, ESPN is the most expensive content about any cable carrier provides. Their program costs are high. People have also realized that you can watch any football game for free on the net from content outside the US.

If I want to watch a sports event (which happens rarely), the local hangout has three plasma TVs, and they don't have to all be tuned to the same show. This is a basic mom-and-pop with plywood walls, holds maybe 75 people when everyone is stuffed in. I imagine just about any crossroads bar in the US offers similar opportunities.

It is odd that so much of major sports media is so PC... almost as if they feel the need to compensate for the fact that their field demonstrates racial and gender differences so clearly.

(In response to the bolded part of the quote, I'm not sure what the unbolded part means)

Not really.

They want to continue to grow and make as much money as possible so they don't want to offend any group whatsoever.

In the context of sports discussions, what does that even mean? Seriously - what are you guys seeing on ESPN that is so politically-motivated? It's freaking sports!

You guys are acting rather obsessive here - not everything is a political agenda out to destroy whatever view you have of the world.

There is endless speculation and hand wringing in sports media over alleged underrepresentation of protected groups in various roles, or whether some remark someone made was racist, homophobic, misogynist, anti-Semitic, etc.

It has to do with their mix of sports. Also the amount they are charging for their programing.
