The top pick to be President Donald Trump's national security adviser, retired Adm. Robert Harward, reportedly declined the offer after seeing Trump air his grievances in a 77-minute press conference on Thursday.

MSNBC host Chris Hayes on Friday cited a former national security official familiar with Harward's decision who said Harward asked that several demands be met as a condition of accepting the offer:
A clear chain of command, reporting directly to the president.
Restoring the [National Security Council] structure of prior administrations ... so that political advisers like Steve Bannon would not have a seat on the Principals' Committee.
"Harward wanted to undo the fairly large changes the president had made to the NSC that had inserted Bannon into the process," Hayes reported.

The White House reportedly sought to negotiate with Harward on the matter, which Harward was apparently open to, Hayes said, but that changed a short time later.
"After watching the president's press conference [Thursday], he decided to stick with his decision to decline the offer," according to the source cited by Hayes.
Top national security adviser pick reportedly bailed after seeing Trump's press conference

Now this is a man with some principles and intelligence!

Another thread here asks if the anti-Trump people would be happy with Mike Pence as President. I have to say "NO" because to accept the position he has, he lacks the qualities that Adm.Robert Harward has shown!

President Pinocchio's WH staff is the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight. Announcing their offer without first getting the nominee's agreement to serve.

And, it is HIGHLY UNUSUAL for a retired military leader to say 'no' to a sitting commander in chief.

THAT's how toxic this administration in....and in record time!

I don't blame him, why would he want to have Trump's appointments on his staff and have to go through Bannon to contact the president. The director of NSA had immediate access to the president in the past, this is new.

Not a conspiracy theory unless Flynn's son is behind it.

What Adm Harward asked for makes perfect sense:

1. clear chain of command reporting straight to the president and

2. restoration of NSC structure meaning getting a political hack like Bannon out of the NSC.

The press conference illustrated that the president is a volatile prevaricator.
His administration is disorganized, and chaotic as evidenced by the disastrous roll out of the travel/Muslim ban.

This is a man who will only listen to what he wants to hear and not what he NEEDS to hear.

His war on the press is childish, counter productive and above all, anti democratic. Reminds me of Richard Nixon and his list of enemies.

Nobody in his right mind would for that obnoxious jerk.

Oddly, the fact that the General refused the offer, makes me wish that he had taken it, if you follow my reasoning.

Just what I was thinking. Understand him declining but things might be so much better if he had accepted.

Come on, what's up with "reading comprehension" and the liberals? "Reportedly", yeah another word in line with "alleged", "anonymous source", etc. Means nothing. "REPORTEDLY". A unnamed source could very well be a delusion caused by an adverse reaction to a medication or lack of a needed one! Come on, geesh!

MSN?

what conspiracy theories??
Trump and Harward?
Harward and the MSM?

Trump would not let him kick, out KT MacFarland....no autonomy in his Dept
Bad choice on Trump's part or Bannon's or whoever made it...

Secondly, seeing a President who cannot function with civility, attention, and without unwarranted emotion for 90 min is likely a good insight into what the rest of his operating style is like...

Harward knows HIS style and requirements to function at HIS best
Why work for someone who has no intention of letting you do that???

So, you are denying that he rejected the job offer ? Why do you think he did that ? Maybe because he saw how bat s*** crazy his new boss is and he wanted no part of it.

I think you will see a lot more rats jumping ship in the future.
