It says a lot about our current state as a nation where an organization which was originally founded to relieve suffering in developing nations lacking the ability to provide basic medical care for it citizens finds itself spending more and more time in the US because this 'first world nation' apparently lacks the ability to provide medical care for its citizens as well.

I can't get over how easy and simple it is in this country to come up with the trillion$ necessary to fund an unjust, unfounded war as in Iraq, but impossible to spend what's necessary to assure everyone who lacks money for adequate medical care can get it. Depending on the generosity of volunteer medical efforts won't quite cut it because as you saw in the 60 minutes program, they had to end up turning a bunch of people away.

We are indeed an immoral, selfish and downright uncivilized nation to a highly shameful extent, made all the worst by too many people responding to the situation by looking the other way.

Trillion is with 12 zeros behind it.
If you’re counting it is $1,000 per second, per year
You’ll be counting for 2,000 years.

Isn’t there a few bucks for our friends and families in need of medical care in this country? So what is wrong with medical care for our own people, our own working poor and middle class Americans. Can’t they have the same attention that our elected political cronies in Washington DC have?

Well, the problem is that many people in this country look down upon the poor and needy, viewing them as little more than legalized thieves of their tax dollars every time they get food stamps, take advantage of government subsidized housing or medicaid and so forth.

It's also viewed by many selfish people in this country that it's very wrong and immoral to help those who are poor and in need because all you are doing for them is rewarding them for being in that condition and through welfare programs teaching them they can just go on being rewarded if they keep on being poor. But the poor are gonna always be with us no matter what you do or not do.

Actually, the current cost of the Iraq war has come to almost $500 billion with the long term impact expected up to as much as $2 trillion.

Isn't it amazing in this, what some refer to as "the world's greatest country," that some are happy and willing to spend TRILLIONS of their tax dollars for a war in another country to "help" those people but balk violently at spending money on their own countrymen !!!!!
They are so blind to the fact that a healthy country is a strong country! And a strong country helps it's weakest!!!!!!

Didn't one of their leaders, I believe Jesus was his name, say, "What you do for the least of these you do for me""????

I believe a good place to start would be for everyone to contact their Senators and Representative and insist Congress pass a bill denying Congressmen paid medical insurance until everyone has access to the same plan. Why should employees of the people have better coverage than their employers?

Would they do it? Of course not. But the first thing you need do to get a mule to act is get its attention, a few million Emails, letters, etc. on the same topic might rattle a few cages and get them thinking about keeping their jobs.

Some people in this country still believe in the theory that if they behave properly Mammon will reward them with great fortune. That is why they support a tax code that benefits millionaires at the expense of the almost rich. The almost rich believe that the really rich should not be taxed because they would not want to pay high taxes when they win the lottery of their speculative investment are blessed by Mammon.

Having the government tax them, or the millionaires they will become, to support the poor, sick, and lame is blasphemy. Those people are damaged and unsuccessful because they don’t believe in Mammon or they would be successful just like the strivers that haven’t quite made it. Believe me when I say that the really rich will set up the tax code to prevent any of the wealth from being transferred downward. “Let the charitable take care of the poor, we have Money to make,” is the motto of the already have the richest amongst us.

I am afraid our militarism, greed and immoral worship of Mammon will be our downfall. I cannot figure a realistic way to stop this but I suspect a major economic collapse beyond the control of government will tell us that we must.

PS - Our congress critters have better everything because, they are, to a great extent, the representatives of Mammon on Earth, and deserve the wealth, power, privlege and medical care that acrue to the "chosen".
