At the end of FY 2017 the total government debt in the United States, including federal, state, and local, is expected to be $23.2 trillion. I just don't see how that can ever be paid off.

WTH are you talking about Trump was given the country in a silver platter compared to how it was given to Obama in 08, how easily we forget??? We are hoping the new administration doesn't bring it back to levels of no return is the question??? And congress was and still is controlled by republicans, so if you want to blame anyone...

That debt probably cannot be paid off. But the U.S. will survive the previous Administration(s) IF the current administration is allowed to make crucial changes to the way that 'business was always done' in Washingon D.C. and on the local level.

I was disappointed with the spending Congress did during the Bush years, and Obama simply added to it.

It costs a great deal of money to feed the denizens of the swamp and all the demands of their constituents. People pleasing usually is an expensive proposition. It's just a way of ensuring votes at the taxpayers' expense.

Yes, we are in a mess, people recognized it, and that's what got President Trump elected. I wish the left would stop their efforts to derail every policy before they even know what is planned.

We will survive if sanity and reason prevail.

Those on the far right have spent the past 8 years rewriting history. In their alternate reality, the nation was perfect until "that black man" took office in January 2009 - and yet, somehow at the same time, Obama is to blame for the housing bubble that happened before he took office. They also like to pretend that the "real reason" for the Housing Crash was too much regulation, despite that being a verifiable falsehood and a downright insane statement.

Moving along, they pretend they voted for Trump "because he'll bring back jobs and do something about ISIS" while also pretending that jobs didn't grow under Obama - which they did - and that Obama didn't do anything about ISIS, which is a lie. So, now they place their hopes in a buffoon con-man who's never created a real job in his life, or even had a real job!

And what's the crowning achievement so far for their double-think? Trying to give Trump credit for job creation and the market rise that happened on Obama's watch while AT THE SAME TIME denying such job creation and market growth happened "while that black man" was in office!

Only Republicans can live in a world where events both did and did not happen, depending upon what their agenda at the time is. Classic Double Think.

As for the OP, remember your history. The nation's economy was seriously damaged while that idiot Bush was in office and after the Republicans let the Housing Bubble fester as they ran the show from 2000 to 2006, when the Bubble peaked and started to decline. Given the utter failure of modern Republican policies EVERY TIME they've been tried, you can't possibly think that letting a stooge like Trump and his cronies run the show is going to make things better.

That debt will never be repaid.

But many many people, their kids, and grandkids will be taxed for a long time to pay the interest on it.

How Democrats Wrecked the Economy and Successfuly Blamed Republicans

Quote:
Based on a flawed study by the Boston Fed in 1992 (coauthored by an economist friend of Hillary), the Democrats claimed that minority homeownership rates were being held back by "racist" banking practices. The study found that minorities had a higher rejection rate for home loan applications than the general public. Without providing any direct evidence, the authors simply assumed that the underlying cause must be institutional racism in the banking industry. The bottom line is that Democrats were the primary architects and the driving force behind the irresponsible banking practices that led to the subprime mortgage meltdown, the financial crisis, and the recession that resulted. But they managed to successfully pin the public blame on Republicans, and Barack Obama was elected as a result.

It is simply amazing that the right refuses to acknowledge the state of this economy in 2008. Worst economic situation since the Great Depression by any number of measuring sticks. It was in all the papers.

The question is was it bush's or clinton's fault?
