On page 1, alone, there are posts about Scarlet Johansen, David Letterman, Alyssa Milano and Shia LaBeouf. Why do you guys care so much about celebs? I personally couldn't care less what any celebrity says about any politician. I respect their right to have and share their opinions, but I honestly couldn't care less what they think. You guys seem obsessed with liberal celebs.

It's fun to see celebrities act like their life is over because Trump won

I find it a bit troubling that professional jesters feel their opinions concerning politics are noteworthy. Other than that, I could care less about celebrities. In fact, I'm quite out of touch with who is current in Hollywood, music, etc. Some of us work for a living, and don't have time to waste following the fake fantasy world they live in.

I think a far better question would be to ask these celebrities, "Why do you believe that your political opinion should carry any more weight than any other American?" Clearly, the news media seems to think that their opinion is important. Why else would Bill Maher invite Ben Affleck -- a man with absolutely no political credentials -- onto his show to discuss political issues? That's just one example. There are countless others. Why does the mostly liberal news media value celebrity opinions so much?

Honestly, I think that celebs just need to shut up about politics and focus on what they're good at: Pretending to be completely different make believe people. The majority of Americans agree with me. That's one of the reasons why Trump won.

Why was Trump on faux news for the last 8 years, wasn't he just a celebrity?

I think you'd need to offer a bit more context for your question. What we already know is that Trump had run for POTUS (briefly) before and that he was likely to run eventually. So he was certainly political. I didn't vote for the guy and my expectations of the man are pretty low to be honest. But I seriously doubt that Ben Affleck running for president would get any traction. He's clearly too much of a hothead, exploding in irrational anger whenever his beliefs are challenged. For example, his contribution in the following is ... well ... a completely worthless emotional tantrum. He can't stop himself from lashing out and shouting down men who clearly know the subject matter far better than he does.

The bigger question remains: Why do I care what celebrities have to say? Do you? If so, why do you care?

Okay, found a great video that sums up how I feel about celebrities preaching to me about politics:

Know thy enemy.

I don't consider celebrities to be enemies of just a political party, but enemies of society at large. Beyond entertainment, they bring very little to the table (on average). Sorry, a charity to reduce their tax burden doesn't count.

Celebrity ha created a downward trend in our culture and celebrities are responsible for it. Not all, but many. Look at Shart LeBeef and his in-process meltdown. He's certainly drawn the ire of many for being a grade-A jerkoff. He wasn't content with just having his political beliefs, but he had to spit them all over someone who dared challenge the great Witwicki. I applaud the autists for trolling him at every possible turn. He earned it.

As far as other celebrities, they feel they are the geniuses (genii?) of politics and their opinion is all you need to know. They forget they're paid well to pretend. Spewing lies and BS because they have a gaggle of press willing to salivate over their next word does not qualify them to instruct the public how to vote. This goes for both sides.

I guess this is the world we live in because we have people stupid enough to buy into their refuse. Rather than asking why people are so obsessed with celebrities, perhaps you should thank them for pointing out the hypocrisy many of them spew. How many of the super-rich do you really think can identify with the average person? You think George Clooney can? How about Scarlett? The answer is none of them.

They inspire narcissism as much as social media and contribute next to nothing to society beyond their "art".

The OP, like most liberals is confused. The obsession with celebrities is a liberal phenomenon. Hollywood backed Hillary, remember? The threads about celebrities are just to remind you how foolish your adoration of them has become.

I would just love to see 5 thousand refugees re-located to Beverly Hills, CA. They can learn English at Beverly Hills high school and wander around Rodeo Drive.

You would see Cher and Meryl Streep at Trump rallies real quick.
