You havent established deep cuts. You havent established the elderly rely on Meals on Wheels. You havent established cuts to the block grant program or any other tax cuts are funding tax breaks for anyone much less the President and his friends.
At this point your just making stuff up like some of the other wack a do liberals. You know what else I heard Donald Trump abuses animals because he doesn't own a dog! You guys are hilarious.
35% of the Meals on wheels program is funded by the federal government. Thats massive. The elderly rely on this program. Millions of elderly. And they rely on it for a health check-up as well. Its just savagery to support this the way you do. Especially since you also support huge spending increases for the military industrial complex and massive tax breaks for Trump and his cronies.
grow up. us elderly people will do just fine thank you.
You dont speak for the millions who rely on Meals on wheels and home heating assistance. Its savagery to support these cuts to fund billions in tax cuts for the donor class.
The evening news should give a human face to the people who rely on this program so people can wake up. The donor class are doing fine, so why do you support lining their pockets even more at the expense of the destitute elderly?
As Trump has presented his budget, which calls for drastic cuts to programs that give the poor elderly food on the table and heating assistance so they dont starve or freeze to death, while also making massive cuts to health care for rural elderly folks, how will the elderly in America fare? This should concern all of us, as this budget is really devastating for the people we should really lift up in America, not punish in order to fund tax breaks for the billionaire class who is doing phenomenally well.
This problem will take care of itself when we take care of the illegal alien problem. The disabled have also seen cuts. The illegal aliens have become such a taxpayer burden that cuts have to be made somewhere. Charitable programs are being overwhelmed by illegal aliens, many of those programs were to serve citizens, the poor and/or elderly. Here they are using a program meant for the homeless to send home food on the weekends for multi-families residing illegally in the US.
Also, most of us that voted for Trump knows that he and his administration will look at the situation and determine the most appropriate action. It isn't like he had a foundation where if you make a contribution, it will change his course of action.

Agree. That really has nothing to do with one's opinions in general or anything else other than being a regular here at C-D.

We should all fear for the well being of our seniors if Trump gets his will with this budget. Because it is brutal for the rural elderly (I havent even started on the huge cuts to rural programs like the agriculture budget and the work re-training programs for Appalachia).
You do know that the rural elderly get healthcare right? We have a ton of them and they are being served by Medicaid and/or county health facilities, but again, the plague of the illegal aliens is making it more difficult, but there is a plan for that also.
We are overextended on our spending and cuts have to be made. Most of these programs have a lot of "fat", the federal government is SO wasteful, if you haven't worked for them, you have NO idea!
If you are really concerned, Meals On Wheels does take volunteers to help, many churches take donations of food and toiletries, and one can make a donation to their power companies to help others with utility bills.

Many of the elderly cannot even afford their medicine? That is true. I heard Trump say something regarding finding a way to bring the cost of both medical care and prescription medications, that is what needs to be done. Have you ever seen the costs of medications in Mexico just over the border? No reason we should not be paying the same.
You may want to consider coming up a plan and forwarding it to the White House, sign up for Trump's newsletter and you'll get surveys to express your opinion. Expressing your opinion here really won't go anywhere.
Remember, the Democratic Party handed Trump the election on a silver platter carried by Hillary Clinton, so you might better spend your time helping either that party or another come up with a candidate that can defeat Trump and meet your expectations, otherwise, you in for a hard 8 years.
The elderly will be taken care of. Others will step up and continuing to chip away at the foreign invaders that are sucking both Medicaid and charitable services down like there is no tomorrow (well, there might not be for them), it will come together.
We have one of the oldest populations in our state and no one will starve.

Ok thats not true.
According to independent auditors the actual revenue from government grants for the year 2015 for the Meals on Wheels America was 248,237 of the total revenue 7,564,588, thats 3.3%.
What is being cut is a block grant to states. Meals on Wheels is just one of the many programs funded through that block grant.

One meal per day. Most of the funding is provided by other sources.
That volunteer is not qualified to do a health check-up.

In response to confusion around federal funding received by Meals on Wheels:
Meals on Wheels services are provided directly to seniors by a nationwide network of 5,000 local community-run programs that, in the aggregate, receive 35% of their funding from the federal government.
Some media outlets have incorrectly reported this number to be 3%, confusing it with the federal funding received by Meals on Wheels America, the national membership organization that does not provide direct services (e.g., meals). This miscommunication dramatically understates the significant impact of any federal budget cuts that may affect Meals on Wheels.
The volunteer will of course check that everything is fine and that is crucial for sick, poor elderly people.

And the numbers I posted were straight from the audit.
Look at what they said, they who may have their budget cut.
5,000 local community-run programs IN THE AGGREGATE receive 35% federal funding.
This is not saying each one of the 5,000 local community run programs receives 35% of its yearly revenue from federal funds.
Volunteers are people like you and I who take a few minutes to drop off a meal. Some may spend a few minutes with particular folks, some may just put the meal on the porch. They may know that person is still alive, or not. They deliver food they are not home health care workers.
If that is the aspect that is important, volunteers can make welfare checks for free. That is not what the funding covers anyway so welfare checks are not in danger of being cut.
