Classic Trump tactics: mobilize gullible, xenophobic people against a fake cultural crisis make up by the "fake news" right wing media; claim victory and improve populist hero status over said fake crisis by doing nothing more than saying "Merry Christmas" a few times in speeches (also lie a lot and claim Obama never said it despite the video footage).

Not bad for a completely un-religious guy. This is too easy for him.

Meanwhile, there is a "Living Christmas" display supported by the liberal CA town I live in for the 14th year now, Merry Christmas cards are sold in every store same as always, and Obamas' annual Merry Christmas tidings were manufactured into more "fake news" support of the lie that they're Muslims - while they tell the rest of us that we're the ones listening to fake news.

Politically weaponizing Christmas via lies = the true meaning of the season for supposedly Christian conservatives. I see through it all.

I agree. I haven't seen this war on Merry Christmas at all. The only thing I've seen is that in certain governmental/public run areas, there is more inclusion during the holiday. So not only is Merry Christmas touted and expressed but so is Hanukkah and Kwanza which all occur during the same time frame.

It is sad to see how politicians have generated all this cultural conflict over the past decades. There is no arguing that it has not been successful for them, but it came at great expense to our national cohesiveness.

Yeah, I never understood this war on Christmas nonsense. No one was making a political statement by saying Happy Holidays. In most cases, just trying to combine a greeting for Christmas and New Year's which are a week apart.

The irony is they are always making up fake wars about PC speech. Then they try to cast themselves as the victim by asserting they are not allowed to say something. Kind of strange as they are the ones determining what is actually "PC" or not, all the while claiming the opposite.

They are doing the same thing with #Metoo; First, they conveniently ignore gross, obscene comments that anyone would see as common sense not to say. Then they twist it somehow that you now can't say anything to a woman without it being taken the wrong way. So in two months, they created a "fake war" on men too. LOL What I find so amazing is that people are this dense.

Oh well, "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or whatever....

You see through the lens of your hostility toward conservative Christians.

A lot of this is a reaction to U.S. corporate culture becoming more global, leftist and cooperative.

I know plenty of old white dudes who miss the "Mad Men" era, and resent the idea that some of the social norms of their adolescence have become offensive. (Mostly race/gender stuff though, not Christmas.)

I'm not exactly sure where the "War on Christmas" meme came from exactly, but I think it was Fox News. It always seemed to me like a coordinated astroturfing campaign by them, specifically, rather than an actual grassroots conservative movement.

Your typical Trump supporter is rural and uneducated.

They believe whatever Fox News and Breitbart tell them to think.

I'm a liberal and I've said "merry Christmas" at least 10 times in the last few days never have i ever heard about anyone declaring war on Xmas.
