Funny how this comes up whenever a Republican, going back to Eisenhower, becomes President. If I were the cynical sort I'd say it was nothing more than sour grapes.
In the wake of Trump, I think we need to take a serious look at a new amendment to the Constitution. I am sure Democrats would support this and Republicans would as well under a normal administration (they would oppose it under Trump).
A) Any candidate running for President of the United States must have either held a public office or served in the military at some point in their life prior to running for President. That public office can be a national level, state level, or municipal level office, but any candidate should have served at some point in their past. Any branch of military service would also suffice.
B) Presidential cabinet appointees must have either held a public office, served in the military, or worked in the private sector in a position that is related to the cabinet position they are being appointed to.
I believe this will safeguard us from ever having another President as incompetent and "in over his head" as this one. What do you think?
What a BS ! Just because the Democrats didn't succeed with their dirty media and other low life tricks to get Hillary chosen, a democrat wants the constitution to be changed.

The system worked just fine. The Democrats did this to themselves. If Bernie had not been cheated out of the nomination, Trump would never have been President. People wanted change and the Democrats ran a pandering status-quo candidate.
That is exactly right. If the left held a fair race, Bernie would have won. Bernie too help Trump by coming out to support Hillary even through he knew left handed her the nomination. If Bernie say F Hillary, I don't even think Trump will get the nomination.

Yup. Obama was probably the least qualified president ever but libs will never go there.
If Biden had run - I know many Republicans that would have voted for him over Trump - we would not be having these conversations. Bernie was not going to win - he's too socialist - but Biden would have won big time over Trump.
The Republicans pushed McCain and Romney down people's throats - they didn't want either of them. The Democrats didn't learn from that and proceeded to push Hillary down our throats - people didn't want her so we have to blame our own party for the Trump presidency.
Uh, no! Biden is an idiot. You would have had to have someone really compelling to win in a change election, not the Vice President.
Biden has a lot of negatives that have been forgotten, but they would have been rehashed.

I disagree katy - many people I know would have voted for him over Trump - it was their hate of Hillary that had them voting Trump. People did not see him as a continuation of Obama as much as they saw Hillary as one.
The requirements are fine the way they are. The Democrats want to change everything, the electoral college and now the requirements for POTUS because their candidate lost, fair and square. Will they never realize the source of the problem was their nominee? It doesn't look like it at this point.
Career politicians has been a proven failure IMHO.
I agree, and I also think a presidential candidate should have a chance if they aren't wealthy. The problem is the candidates need to have money and connections to big money in order to run. In a country with the average income being $50,000 a year we'd open up our options if we clipped that requirement.
