That's why you don't fly on Spirit.

This sort of thing is going to continue to happen and more frequently. People feel disenfranchised for many, many reasons. All that energy has to go somewhere.

It's not just Spirit that has cancellations.

Delta had similar cancellations, delays and long lines approx 1 month ago and it lasted for several days. Thousands of flights were cancelled and many flights delayed for many hours. My flight was delayed by 8 hours that day and the passengers on my flight were cool headed. We were worried our flight would be cancelled and were thankful that it didn't get cancelled. The passengers applauded for several minutes when the boarding announcement was made.

You left out the part where a bunch of pilots decided to be no-shows leading to multiple flight cancellations.

Quote:
Spirit said it filed a federal lawsuit against the Airline Pilots Association, which it accused of intentionally disrupting the airline's operations, leading to hundreds of canceled flights.
Thus leaving multiple people stranded.

That's the whole plane on Spirit Airlines. It's the Greyhound Bus of the skies.

The Fort Lauderdale airport is an absolute zoo in general I use it fairly often. It doesn't matter what airline you're using..there's always issues there. I was there 2 years ago coming back from the Bahamas when that Boeing 767 plane caught on fire on the runway. It was complete chaos. I had to stay overnight in Fort Lauderdale at a hotel and couldn't fly back home until the next day.

Things on airlines are going to get even worse:

"American Airlines, the world’s biggest carrier, is planning to cut legroom in its economy cabins by up to two inches, in a bid to make room for additional passenger seats.

Passengers in the 18 seats with two inches less legroom will be charged normal economy fares and these seats will not fall under the airline’s new basic economy fares, which are lower priced as passengers aren’t allowed access to overhead bins, reserved seating or to accrue air miles."

The world's biggest airline is making economy class even more cramped

Pretty soon there will be airline employees at each row, shoehorning people in.

I used to love to fly. Not any more.

Someone said, "Airlines can possibly get any worse"

Thanks whoever you are for tempting fate.
