I vehemently agree with you about the value of the 5th Amendment and was merely stating a fact. It is rich irony that the man who led the chants of "lock her up", who came across as holier than thou and considered himself a "true patriot" during the campaign is now the one facing serious criminal time for, among other crimes, collaboration with a foreign adversary.

Innocent people don't do this. He knows he's guilty, he's just playing different angles to try to get a plea deal.
It is alleged he lobbied the administration to not attack ISIS in Raqqa, reflecting Turkey's position, and Turkey paid him six figures. If this is proven true of course that is a serious crime.
