A bill was introduced in the Senate, that would require Attorney General Sessions to pull back on his plan to increase criminal sentences, especially in regards to drug offenses. It would give judges more leeway and discretion and reduce mandatory sentences. It's sponsored by republican Rand Paul and democrats Patrick Leahy and Jeff Merkley. Maybe there's hope for us yet.

Amazing how scared the Republicans are of the Democrats. It's time they stood up to them

That's an interesting response, coming from you. If it's true, it might be because they recognize that the Democrats in congress have the only unified and dependable block of votes. As this circus in Washington goes on, democrats are going to gain more influence, on measures that need to be passed, for the good of those of all affiliations.

And Trump will immediately run to the Dems for support, if the GOP doesn't give him what he wants.

Thing is there are deep repurcussions to federally mandating sentences. THIS from the party that talks of "states rights"?

Only until it doesn't suit them.

As the states move towards legalization of marijuana and medical uses are found for the plant, not to mention the rising costs of keeping Americans in prison for non-violent crimes while violent crimes are increasing, why oh why is our Republican AG looking to usurp states rights in regards to drug crimes and marijuana legalization?

Anybody know? Conservatives?
