I whole heartedly support the progressive movement to isolate themselves ENTIRELY from the rural areas.
That is not the reality. We are all stuck with each other. Let's play nice.

I think the rust belt needs to give kids more technical training for skilled trades. I agree long gone are the days that every town had a factory, we have a global economy and it keeps the cost of living down, but there are so many other types of jobs and industries that have potential in rural rust belt states, it just needs to be researched and invested in.
True. I think the community colleges are a critical investment for our future in general, particularly in Rust Belt/Alppalqchian areas. You have to have a well trained workforce to compete globally for good jobs and our educational system has to be the key if those areas are to thrive.

Shipments of produce coming into the US have quadrupled in less than 20 years. Stroll through a Costco and check out the stickers in the produce section.

Farmers that think they have a lock on the US food market are in for a rude awakening.
As the article points out, this is largely because we now sell fruits and vegetables out-of-season year round. (Notice that nearly all of our imports come from countries on opposite growing seasons from us or with a second growing season outside our growing season.)

Only if you respect the individual liberty of others. If not, well Johnny, grab your gun, we have business.

Let us be honest though.

City needs rural, rural does not need city.

Think on that a while.

Yes, his Canada issue really made me, and tons of dairy farmers very mad. There's been tons of tariff issues lately especially with beef and dairy and I only project it will get worse.
Agriculture is changing very much in the rust belt. We are feeding a global economy on less land, with less water and with less profit. To make it worth it for farmers they have to subsidies but this also helps the consumers out so you aren't paying an arm and a leg for your food. Farming isn't cheap. Farmers need bigger tractors, combines, pickers ECT. To keep up with the global demand for food. I don't know the last time you priced out those things but those things are expensive.
Most farmers are not rich and are getting subsidies to stay afloat and feed and clothe you and I. I don't know about you but I don't want to get my food from China, they have less sanitation and are less regulated. American farmers are very regulated and make sure you have good biosecurity when you buy food.

We are already getting a ton of our produce from Mexico, Central America and South America. And food safety is soon going to be something US farmers cannot claim. Especially since Trump is firing 30% of the EPA.

And yet Wisconsin's Scott Walker has been gutting the University of Wisconsin's budget and tenure protections for faculty. What a way to attract faculty (both in retention and recruitment)!
