And so is Kansas....the ultimate poster child for middle American values. Actually Kansas might be in the worst financial situation out of any state in the entire country, and they followed the GOP playbook to a T by slashing taxes and programs. Now they're in dire need for things like simple road repairs.

I wouldn't mind seeing homeowners with kids in school paying a slightly higher property tax. Maybe a small school tax for renters with kids who don't pay property taxes to help cover the cost of educating those kids.
I have owned homes since 1975, I have never had sewer, water or garbage included in my property tax. We all pay taxes for schools because having an educated population is essential to just about everything we do. Renters pay property tax, landlords include their property tax expense in the rent

Oh this is just beyond stupid of an argument.

You are seriously arguing a case for freedom and liberty to subjugate people with socialistic policies?

Seriously, that is a STUPID argument.

We had education long before we started forcing taxes for it. In fact, the average 8th grader in the 1800's was far more educated than the average high schooler today.

They pay a "portion" of it due to cost being passed on, but they do not pay the same cost responsibility as a property owner. Also, many who get public assistance have any such costs negated by the government picking up the bill.

There is nothing justified in property taxes for social services, it is legalized theft.

I have all those things, and they are all very well equipped......my p taxes just went down $400 a year to $2400. Just to be fair, our city has a current commercial boom, so that is picking up some slack for the homeowners.

Yea but you live in Texas and have no State Income Tax - so at 55K/yr and 5% that is $2750 saved (or paid elsewhere).

I don't know how desirable it is, the house was last appraised at $150k, despite being 2,600sq ft and on a 1/4 acre of land. I know here in Phoenix that same set up would be appraised at minimum $500k if not more.

Mainly because there isn't much of an economy left upstate the way Bausch and Lomb, Xerox and Kodak shedded jobs.
