There was one person who maintained his dignity during today's hostage video. It was James Mattis. He refused to gravel to that tin pot wannabe dictator. He gave his thanks to the people of the military not that fool.
I suspect this was Trump's attempt to counter what he sees as massively unfair negative coverage... use the normally photo-op only event as a means to tout his "successes" by having everyone say something positive. With the usual dash of hyperbole, of course.
It's awkward and silly, but this is one of those times the media would be better served by dissecting the truthfulness of the actual claims made rather than focusing on how weird it was. Nobody cares if he broke tradition but political junkies.
