One thing about George Washington. He bet everything that he had, including his life, that he could beat the British.

If he lost, everything he and his family had would have been confiscated and he himself would have been executed.

And he knew it.

Yet another ridiculous deflection thread. Really?

The bottom line for me is that this President may be in too deep with a geopolitical adversary and compromised. That's far different then just being a successful businessman. Anyone who turns a blind eye to that is despicable.

Making moonshine or bourbon was one !
Thank you George!
Wonder if he did his patriotic duty of paying taxes on said spirits?

I'll note the complete lack of evidence supporting what in reality is your opinion and nothing else.

An opinion the number of well documented lawsuits against Trump by people seeking payment rightfully theirs would seem to refute.

Umm... no, OP. Once again, that is not how this works.

And, please don't insult our first president that way.

Unfortunately, in George Washington's time, slavery was a common, and legal practice. Was it wrong, and those that practiced it misguided by society's norms? Yes. However, we can not judge the past through the prism of the present. To do so is very naïve, and misleading. There are many common practices in the past that are now considered wrong. Those people were a product of their times, nothing more nothing less.

An interesting story about General Washington that I read years ago (I could not find my original source, so cite two I found now).

When the Continental Congress offered Mr. Washington the position of Commander in Chief of the army, they offered him a salary of $500.00 per month. For the length of the war, it would have been $48,000.00.

General Washington refused the salary, to the admiration of all, saying that he only wanted to be reimbursed for his expenses at the end of the war. Congress agreed.

Alas! When the good General submitted his expense account at the end, it was for $449,000.00. Seems he did a lot of entertaining and such.

George also offered to serve as the first President of the United States on the same terms: no salary, just reimburse me for my expenses. Congress, however, insisted on a firm, fixed salary.
